belle & sebastian are currently recording their fourth studio/church album for release in late summer. the band are also planning a three track single to be released before the album. the much sought after debut album 'tigermilk' is also scheduled for a release in may/june. it has been re-mastered and will be available for the first time on CD as well as vinyl. the decision to re-release the album was prompted by the poor quality bootlegs that have been flying around the world. in between recording the next studio album, belle & sebastian band members stuart david and isobel campbell have both recorded solo albums for release in march and april respectively. stuart david's spoken word electronica combo 'looper', features his wife wee karn and brother ronnie black. a joint project with sub pop in the US, the 10 track debut album 'up a tree' on CD and LP has been released to wide critical acclaim. info on looper can be found their website. isobel campbell's project 'the gentle waves' is a sixties influenced pop/folk album with isobel as chanteuse and playing most of the instruments herself. there are also contributions from friends and various members of belle & sebastian.

25th* April 23rd - April 25th 1999 @ Camber Sands Holiday Centre UK this is the confirmed line-up to date, as more are added we'll let you know (updated 5th March 1999 with the latest confirmations):
tickets are £85.00 (eighty five pounds) for a weekend pass to include festival entrance and chalet accommodation. the capacity is limited to 2,600 and will go on sale on saturday 20th february 1999 exclusively from ticketweb, either by phone on 0171-771-2000 or online at http://www.ticketweb.co.uk/ apartments must be booked as a complete 4,5,6 or 7 bed unit. a £25.00 (twenty five pounds) refundable damages deposit will be required from each person on arrival at the site and will be refunded when leaving the site. booking is similar to how you book a hotel, i.e. you book and pay for the room and not per person, so you will need all your money together before you phone up to book the tickets. tickets are selling very fast, so if you haven't booked your tickets yet, do so now as we think it may sell out by the weekend of 29th February we're pretty sure that all the 4 person and 7 person chalets are sold, so it's only 5 and 6 person chalets left. *bowlie weekender - the explanation! the idea for this festival came from stuart murdoch and neil from the belle & sebastian camp whereby they wanted to take over a holiday camp and stage a festival over a weekend with exciting new and already established bands of their choice. The location for the site is the Camber Sands Holiday Centre in Camber Sands between Hastings & Rye on the south-east coast of england. it is set to take place on friday April 23rd until sunday April 25th. tickets are being issued as a weekend pass only as the allocation is limited to 2,600 and will be sold as a package where you gain entrance to the festival but this will also include a chalet apartment with TV and private cooking and shower facilities. each apartment sleeps four to six people and everyone will be encouraged to take apartments with friends as no one can take an apartment for four unless they pay for four tickets. this may appear to be too formal but due to the very limited allocation and the proposed line-up it is likely to sell very fast. apartments will be available from friday afternoon until monday morning and a returnable deposit of around £25.00 will be refunded on inspection of the apartment after the festival is finished. The weekend pass to include accommodation and festival entrance will be £85.00. The live music will take place from friday until sunday with a club night after each show with all ticket holders will be able to make full use of all the facilities which include catering outlets, late bars until 4am, go-karting, swimming, playstations etc. plus the beach is a 7-minute walk from the site. The live music will be divided into two stages. The main stage has a capacity of 2,300 people and the smaller stage has a 950 capacity. both are indoor venues so this defeats the general weather concerns that a lot of festivals encounter. each person that purchases a ticket will be advised that the rooms have strict capacity and entrance will be on a first come first served basis as to avoid overcrowding. there is a third smaller venue with a bar on the site, which will have video monitors broadcasting live from the main stage as it happens. so there you have it! we understand that there might be some of you out there that may be travelling a long way on your own or just with one mate and booking a four bedroom chalet is going to be a bit expensive for you. so the best solution we can offer is for you all to be able to speak to each other and group up into fours - a bit like school camp! to help you with this, we've made a festival message board on this site which you can use to post and respond to requests for space + mates to share with! the people on the belle and sebastian mailing list usually meet up at gigs or clubs. The hardest part in meeting everyone else though is always knowing when, where and who to contact. The old way was to post a lot of e-mails to each other giving the same details over and over, or to create temporary pages here and there with the details. well, i've thought of a new way. most sites have those pointless message boards, which are very unimpressive. but when it came down to it that's roughly what i needed, a way for the organisers to post the info in a place that everyone could access easily. a place where all the info would be so that you don't have to be 'in the know' to find out about the latest meet up, the board has the ability for you to reply and ask questions or advice. so, whether you're organising a meet up or just want to attend one and meet other people that like belle and sebastian, just head to the message board to find out what's happening in your vicinity. please note, the board is moderated to keep it from being a chat area. |
