merchandise
early in '97 the fanclub was asked for t-shirts, which we didn't have, but we did respond by getting some. then we got some records, and a badge. stuart david let us sell ink polaroids and laura molloy designed another shirt. so we went from just running an info service to running a mail-order service. we went to gigs and sold shirts and the band got more money than if someone else had done it. everyone was happy.
late in '97 we went to the manchester gigs to sell shirts,
and had our van broken into. the loss of nearly all our shirts set us back severely.
we're back on our feet now, and having learnt all the lessons we're likely to
learn from such an experience have returned with a wider range of merchandise,
better packaging, realistic sizes and such stuff.
this page then is a gallery for the merchandise that has been available and
is available and links to the discography (which is still available). please
note that the older shirts will NOT be produced again, once a design has been
'finished' it is finished and we lay it to rest. the images can be viewed full
screen and in better resolution by clicking on them, use your browsers back
button to get back here.

this is for the small items that compliment subtely the belle
and sebastian merchandise, you know the stuff, badges and books.
three badges were originally available. the first was a silver and brown enamel badge (which we couldn't scan because it's too reflective), this was sold at most of the '97 gigs and has been proudly worn by a lot of people, about 500 of these were made. then another two badges were designed by isobel in late '97. both released at the same time and for the manchester gigs. we produced 500 of each, bue due to the theft only 200 of each were actually sold.
the new badges become a little more complex, we have nine different badges in total (right), and sold them at the UK gigs in sets of three. the complexity comes in that it's very hard to sell them seperately, so when you order a set of badges you will simply be sent a random pick of three badges, ordering 3 sets guarantees that you will get all of the designs, providing we have all of them in stock at the time.
lastly comes the ink polaroids shorter writing by stuart david. they're currently only available directly from stuart david via his treehouse page, but don't let this deter you, they're an essential part of the story of belle and sebastian and i highly recommend them to you.
the ink polaroids book (and the lately published ink movies book) document the bands experiences using short insights into their activities and some of their more anecdotal moments. thousands of these have been made as the US label at the time used them as promotional items, but the ones that stuart david made are all numbered in a short series.
